ORIGINAL NEW OLD STOCK STRAPS FOR THE 1896, 1902,
1903, AND 1904 CARBINE AND RIFLE SCABBARDS – RARE
OPPORTUNITY TO COMPLETE YOUR SCABBARD: The
Models 1896, 1902, and 1903 Krag Carbine Scabbards
and the Model 1904 Springfield Rifle Scabbards, when
found, are regularly
missing the straps that attached the scabbards to the
soldier’s saddle, and these straps are almost impossible
to find on the loose.
I have managed to acquire a small quantity of the
original scabbard straps. Some are “like new” unissued
with a bright russet color, and others are various darker
shades of russet depending on the leather,
finish applied, and storage conditions, but all are still full length and
show very little wear – the primary difference between
the straps is the color of the leather. The
buckles and standing loops on these straps are all
intact, the straps are full form and full length, all of
the adjustment holes are intact, and the finish on the
straps ranges from excellent to very good. While
all of the buckles are the roller buckle type, there are
three types of these buckles – plain iron, iron with the
brown japanned finish, and brass.
Each scabbard employed two straps - the shorter of the
two attached just below the mouth of the scabbard and
the longer strap
attached to the middle of the scabbard. Each set
offered here includes one short and one long strap.
I will attempt within reason to match the straps you
order from the remaining stock based on the color of the
leather of your scabbard. Please keep in mind this is not a
limitless supply, and the color of the straps never
exactly matched the color of the scabbards.
To be clear, these are not reproduction straps, rather
original old stock straps and they are seldom, if ever,
encountered on the loose. When this small supply is
exhausted I have no expectation I will be able to obtain
more - when they are gone, they’re gone. (0907) $125 per set of two straps
