CAVALRY MILLS DOUBLE LOOP .30 CALIBER CARTRIDGE
BELT – VERY GOOD SPECIMEN OF A SCARCE BELT TO DISPLAY
WITH YOUR KRAG CARBINE: This Tan Mills Woven
Double Loop Cartridge Belt incorporates 12 .38 caliber
revolver cartridge loops and a sabre hanger chape and
dismounted hook, features that identify this as a
cavalry belt, and one of the scarcer of the series of
Mills belts of the period.
The belt is in overall very good, solid condition,
showing some minimal wear to the edges of the 50 pairs
(100 total) .30 caliber cartridge loops, but not to the
point that the integrity of the loops is affected -
simply evidence that this belt was issued and worn by a
soldier in the field. The revolver cartridge loops are
complete and show the same degree of edge wear as the
carbine cartridge loops. The webbing retains a clean,
even tan color, and the body of the belt shows no wear
and no damage. Both captive brass ends are present and
firmly attached, and both are stamped with the patent
information “PAT. MILLS & ORNDORFF; AUG 26:67; JULY
31:77; DEC. 28:80; MAR. 19:89; OCT 31:93” and “SEPT
11:94”. The sabre chape is present with the brass
dismounted hook. Both sheet brass keepers and the heavy
cast “C” closure are present and in full form.
This is a very good, solid specimen of one of the
scarcer, and more desirable, of the Mills cavalry
cartridge belts. This is a key belt of the Spanish
American War era and is “the” belt to display with your
Krag Carbine. (0803) $550
