MODEL 1855
RIFLE MUSKET
COMBINATION TOOL: Incorporating a cone wrench
and three screwdriver blades, this scarce tool was
adopted in 1855 with the newly introduced .58 caliber
longarms and every soldier carried one of these in his
cartridge box.. This tool continued in service in
several different modified configurations through the
early years of the Indian Wars, accounting for its
rarity today in this original, as issued condition.
Manufactured at both Springfield and Harpers Ferry
National Armories, the two tools differ only in that
those manufactured at Harpers Ferry are marked "US" and
they appear to be considerably less common than those
manufactured at Springfield.
