US NAVY NAVIGATOR’S BRASS PROTRACTOR – MARKED “USN”:
A standard navigation instrument, this solid brass
protractor was made in England, identified by the
maker’s stamp “M MEYERS & SON, LTD”, and is additionally
identified as having been in the inventory of the US
Navy with the stamp “USN”. Used in conjunction with
navigation charts and other navigation instruments for
plotting a ship’s course, the protractor was used to
measure angles on the various plots.
Measuring 3 ¾” long and 1 ¾” high at the center of the
arc, this protractor is in excellent condition with all
the degree increments legible and distinct. The maker’s
mark and the “USN” stampings are likewise complete and
legible. All of the edges are crisp, there are no bends
or creases to the brass, and the metal has a nice even
patina.
This is very unique piece of US Navy
history, and is a very attractive collectable for the
naval and instrument collectors alike. (0314) $75
