I
find that as most collectors of militaria seek out and
gather the material artifacts that fill their
collection, they are in fact far more interested in the
soldiers, sailors and marines who used these weapons and
equipment, and the times in which they lived. And so
with the belts, swords, muskets and cartridges, the
modern collector also amasses a sense of a lonely patrol
on the vast frontier prairies; the terrible years of
Manassas, Antietam, and Gettysburg; the steaming jungles
of Cuba and the Philippines; and the terror of European
trenches. A dusty saddle, a saber’s mellowed brass, a
musty cartridge box, a dog-eared diary or manual, a
faded ambrotype, all become windows to a long forgotten
past for those of us who have the vision to see. This
is indeed, a special interest we share.
I have enjoyed my interest in antique US militaria for
the past 30 years, and in that time I have been
fortunate enough to acquire a body of knowledge through
my associations with some of the most knowledgeable
people in this field, through constant and in depth
research, and through my personal observations. I have co-authored
two books, The American Military Saddle, 1776-1945
and Bridle Bits of the American Military, 1776-1945,
have contributed to the North-South Trader Price
Guide, and I have provided assistance to, and
participated in, a number of published and current
research projects. I share my background with you
because I want you to be confident in your choice to
place an order with me and I want you to be happy with
your purchases.
Thanks again for dropping in and I look forward to your
visits in the future. If you have any questions, please
don’t hesitate to ask.
Best regards,
Ken McPheeters
