ORIGINAL US ARMY GUIDON SOCKET FOR THE MODELS
1904-1928 McCLELLAN SADDLES – “LIKE NEW” UNISSUED
CONDITION: This Model 1904 Guidon Socket was
first introduced with the Model 1904 McClellan Saddles
and continued in service through the remainder of the
U.S. Army’s horse cavalry. Issued in this form to the
troop saddlers, they were attached to the leather
stirrup hoods with four rivets, providing a secure means
of carrying the unit guidons and National Standard.
This Guidon Socket is in excellent “like new” unissued
condition, and shows no sign of ever having been mounted
on a stirrup. The russet leather remains supple, the
surfaces are bright and smooth with no crazing or
flaking, and all of the stitching is intact. The upper
strap is stamped “US” on one side and on the other side
bears what appears to be a “J.Q.M.D.” maker stamp,
indicating it was manufactured at the Jeffersonville
Quartermaster Depot.
These Guidon Sockets are not a common item to find on
the loose, particularly in this excellent condition and
this specimen will make an interesting addition to your
cavalry collection. (0409) $175
