SPUR STRAPS FOR THE US ARMY MODEL 1911 and MODEL
1914 EXPERIMENTAL SPURS: These sets are the
pattern of spur straps provided for the Model 1911 and
Model 1914 Experimental Spurs which were intended for
use by officers and enlisted men alike. While the army
had changed over to russet leather in 1902, these sets
of spur straps were available in russet leather, black
leather, and black patent leather as documented in the
Ordnance Department Price Lists published in 1913 and as
late as the 1916 and 1917 lists. This choice in leather
may have been offered to accommodate the wearing of the
spurs with dress uniforms.
Far less commonly found than the spurs, these sets of
early pattern straps – as opposed to the later World War
Two dated strap sets – are relatively scarce and they
will be a nice complement to complete your spurs.
I have the sets shown below, each set shown in separate
photographs with accompanying descriptions.

SET 1: Consisting of two upper straps,
this set is made of russet leather and is in like new,
unused condition. These upper swelled straps pass over
the top of the boot – one end engaging the button on the
side of the spur and the other end attaching to the
buckle. This would be the type of upper strap set that
would have been used in conjunction with the lower chain
sets. The straps are full length and the mounting holes
show no signs of ever having been on a pair of spurs.
The leather retains a bright, shiny smooth surface with
no crazing or flexing. Overall this is an excellent
set. (1021) $30
(NOTE: I have several sets of
these russet straps, all in same unissued condition and
the photograph is representative of the selection I
have. Some have some storage soiling, not wear, just
some uneven color. I will select the best of what I
have when you place your order for as long as this small
supply lasts.) |
