W.S. KIRK MODEL 1904 USMC STIRRUP PLAQUE:
From the old military surplus and uniform shop, W.S.
Kirk in Philadelphia, these plaques were made up to sell
the surplus material these dealers had purchased from
the US military.
This particular oak plaque measures 10” high and 8” wide
and is stamped on the reverse “W.S. KIRK PHILA.”
A two-piece cast brass eagle and shield fitting holds a
very rare Model 1904 German Silver McClellan Saddle
Stirrup made expressly for the US Marine Corps. The
plaque and the stirrup are in like new condition. The
plaque has a nice finish and the brass fitting has a
pleasing aged green color. The stirrup is likewise, in
excellent condition, with the full rubber tread and very
plain markings on the bottom of the tread.
This is a very unique piece, with a particularly rare
USMC stamped stirrup.
