CIVIL WAR CARBINE CARTRIDGE
BOX
WOODEN BLOCK INSERT FOR CARRYING METALLIC
CARTRIDGES:
This is an original wooden
block insert for a Civil War Carbine Cartridge Box,
measuring 7 9/16" long, 1
15/16" high and 1
7/16" thick. The block is drilled with 22
holes for cartridges, rather than the more commonly seen
20 round blocks. The holes are large enough to
accept the mainline Civil War carbine cartridges -
Spencer, Sharps, Joslyn, Remington, etc. - which used
the .50-.56 caliber cartridges.
In excellent condition, the block is full form with no
cracks, chips or splits. This is the exact same
block shown on page 17 of Indian
War Cartridge Pouches, Boxes and Carbine Boots by R.
Stephen Dorsey.
Whether to complete a cartridge box that is missing its
block, or to add as it sits to your Civil War cavalry
collection, this is an interesting variant to add to
your collection. (1016) $125
