MODEL 1904 PISTOL LANYARD – ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL
MARKED – DATED 1905 – IN EXCELLENT “LIKE NEW” CONDITION:
An original U.S. Army Model 1904 Pistol Lanyard which
was issued with the Models 1903 and 1910 Colt Revolvers,
the Model 1911 Automatic Colt Pistol, and the Model 1917
Smith and Wesson Revolvers. In fact, this lanyard
remained in service until replaced by the 1917 Lanyard.
This lanyard is in excellent “like new” condition with
no evidence it was ever issued. The russet leather
collar is fully intact and retains a bright shiny
finish. The leather is stamped “RIA” for Rock Island
Arsenal, the production date “1905”, and with the
inspector’s and piece worker’s initials. The cord is
full length showing no wear or soiling, the braided
slide is present, and the snap hook is fully functional
and it retains the original arsenal applied darkened
finish.
These early lanyards did not survive in great numbers,
and quite scarce in any condition. This is an excellent
specimen of the Model 1904 Pistol Lanyard, and it is a
very appropriate appendage to display with your military
pistol.
