SHARPS RIFLE COMPANY 10 ROUND CARTRIDGE PACKETS & INDIVIDUAL .52 CALIBER SHARPS LINEN CARTRIDGES - EXCELLENT COMPLETE EXAMPLES:  I have the following selection of original, complete Civil War issue 52 Caliber Sharps Rifle and Carbine Cartridge packets and individual .52 Caliber Sharps Linen Cartridges.  Each of the packets is complete, containing ten cartridges and twelve percussion caps with clear legible labels.  The individual cartridges are in excellent condition, in full form with the full powder charge and the tissue paper bases fully intact.

These packets and individual cartridges are excellent examples of the ammunition issued for both the Sharps Rifles and Carbines on the far reaches of the Dragoon era frontier west, on the battlefields of the Civil War, and in the early years of western expansion following the War.  Both the packets and individual cartridges for any of the early carbines and rifles are becoming increasingly difficult to find, and in particular those for the popular Sharps firearms have all but disappeared from the current market.

Each of these offerings - both full packets and individual cartridges - are listed below with accompanying photographs.

NO. 1 SHARPS RIFLE & CARBINE 10 ROUND CARTRIDGE  PACKET MADE BY THE SHARPS RIFLE COMPANY - COMPLETE VERY NICE  SPECIMEN:  This original, complete Civil War issue Sharps Rifle Cartridge packet, containing ten cartridges and twelve percussion caps, is full form, and features a clear, legible complete label.  The top half of the packet was carefully opened by slitting the wrapper around the side panels on all four sides, allowing the lid to be lifted to view the contents.  Otherwise, this paper wrapped packet is in excellent condition with all the seams intact. All ten of the original cartridges are present and in excellent condition, as is the paper wrapper of percussion caps.

This is a very nice representative Sharps Cartridge Packet which will allow you to display the contents.  SOLD

NO. 2  SHARPS RIFLE & CARBINE 10 ROUND CARTRIDGE  PACKET MADE BY THE SHARPS RIFLE COMPANY - COMPLETE & SEALED – VERY NICE:  This original, complete Civil War issue Sharps Rifle Cartridge packet, containing ten cartridges and twelve percussion caps, is full form, and features a clear, legible complete label.  This paper wrapped packet is in very nice condition with all the seams intact, having not been opened.  There is one point of wear where the paper wrapper has cracked where it covers the edge of the top lid on one end of the packet.  This is not the result of being opened, rather simply the result of the paper aging through the years.  This area is not particularly noticeable, nor is it likely to increase in area with appropriate handling, but it is mentioned here to provide a complete description.  SOLD

NO. 3  SHARPS RIFLE & CARBINE 10 ROUND CARTRIDGE  PACKET MADE BY THE SHARPS RIFLE COMPANY - COMPLETE & SEALED – EXCELLENT SPECIMEN:  This original, complete Civil War issue Sharps Rifle Cartridge packet, containing ten cartridges and twelve percussion caps, is full form, and features a clear, legible complete label.  This paper wrapped packet is in excellent condition with all the seams intact, having not been opened.  SOLD

NO. 4  .52 CALIBER SHARPS LINEN CARTRIDGES – EXCELLENT COMPLETE EXAMPLE – FULL FORM & INTACT:  Once again, I have been fortunate enough to find a small quantity of these famous .52 Caliber Sharps Linen Cartridges and this group is in “like new” condition, excellent overall in full form, with the full powder charge and the tissue paper bases fully intact.  The bullets retain their full form and the linen powder tubes are likewise in full form, clean, and intact with no tears, wear or other damage.

Becoming increasingly difficult to find on the market, this is a good opportunity to obtain one or more examples of this workhorse cartridge of the US Cavalry, used on the far reaches of the Dragoon era frontier west, through the Civil War, and in the early years of western expansion following the War.  The cartridge shown in the photographs below is representative of the condition of those in this offering.  (0210) $175

NO. 5  .52 CALIBER SHARPS LINEN CARTRIDGE PACKET LABEL:  This original label is the front panel from an original Sharps .52 caliber Carbine ammunition packet manufactured by the Sharps Rifle Manufacturing Company.  Purchased from a very old cartridge collection, this panel was unfortunately cut from the original packet and kept in a scrap book, as it was the custom at the time not to collect full packets; instead the labels were collected such as this one.  The original label was glued onto a piece of backing paper and I have left it as I found it.  Despite the loss of the original packet, this is a significant label for a well known cartridge and from a famous company.  SOLD
