1873 .50 CALIBER FRANKFORD ARSENAL AMMUNITION
PACKET FOR THE MODEL 1871 ARMY REMINGTON PISTOL:
Issued during the Arms Trials of 1871-73, the Model 1871
Remington Army Pistols and these packets of Frankford
Arsenal .50 caliber ammunition saw active service with
the frontier army during the early post-Civil War
conflicts with the Indians.
The label on this packet is notable in that the date –
“May, 1873” - is present and intact. Most of these
packets are found with the date cut out of the label,
the consensus being that the dates on these packets were
removed by Bannerman's employees to hide the age of the
ammunition. These packets with the date intact are
particularly difficult to find and are seldom offered
This packet has seen some wear from the passage of
time. The seams and/or edges have been restored where
they parted during the period of storage. All of the
panels are original and intact, but several of the edges
have been glued back together. The pull string is still
present. The label has suffered some wear to the upper
right hand corner, but the printed portion of the label
is fully intact and legible.
In spite of the wear, this packet is still very
displayable and is offered here at a good price.
