VERSIONS - INTERNALLY PRIMED, BERDAN PRIMED & MARTIN
PRIMED: These are
individual collector quality .44 Caliber Cartridges manufactured by the Frankford Arsenal and issued to the Cavalry soldiers
from 1869 through 1873 for use in their Richards Conversion Colt,
and the Smith and Wesson American Revolvers. Fairly rare to find
on the loose, these were an important pistol cartridge
on the post Civil War Western Frontier and they are a nice addition to
display with your early Indian War pistols and cartridge
boxes.
Both of these cartridges were manufactured at the
Frankford Arsenal and were packaged in twelve round
packets. Each cartridge is pictured in the
photographs below, shown top to bottom in the order in
which they are listed.

Caliber Colt, copper cased Berdan Primed: These are a
very early
loading featuring the Berdan
primer and no headstamp, and might well be an early
Frankford Arsenal production for the Richard's Colt
Conversions.
