US ARMY 10 ROUND PACKETS OF .50 CALIBER TRACER AMMUNITION – SPOTTER ROUNDS FOR THE 105MM RECOILLESS RIFLES – COMPLETE PACKETS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND SINGLE CARTRIDGES:  These packets of US Army “10 CARTRIDGES TRACER CALIBER .50” cartridges were issued for use in the 105mm Recoilless Rifle .50 caliber spotter barrel superimposed on the larger gun tube.  I have two packets, one dating from World War Two dated 1943, and the other from the years following the Korean War, dated 1959.  This is a scarce offering of packets not commonly encountered.  Each packet is described below with accompanying photographs.  Single cartridges are listed below the packets.

No. 1  WORLD WAR TWO .50 CALIBER M-1 TRACER AMMUNITION –COMPLETE BOX OF 10 ROUNDS – HEADSTAMPED 1943 – DES MOINES ORDNANCE PLANT:  This World War Two issue box of “10 CARTRIDGES TRACER CALIBER .50 M1” has a full, clean, legible label indicating this box was produced by the Des Moines Ordnance Plant.

The box has been carefully opened with minimal disruption to the label by slitting the label along the forward edge of the top panel.  The label is still fully intact, and you can lift the top lid to see all 10 of the original cartridges present in the box.  The ten matching cartridges are headstamped "DM" indicating the Des Moines Ordnance Plant, and “43”, indicating this lot was produced in 1943, an early and desirable date, pre-dating many of the major battles in Europe and the Pacific theaters.

Overall this box is very clean and in excellent condition with all of the other seams intact, the label complete and fully legible, and the pointed bullets have not pierced the bottom of the carton as is so often seen on these early boxes.

This is a scarce packet, seldom encountered, and it will make a nice addition to display with any collection of WWII material.  (0939) $150

No. 2  FRANKFORD ARSENAL .50 CALIBER M-48A1 SPOTTER TRACER AMMUNITION – COMPLETE BOX OF 10 ROUNDS – HEADSTAMPED 1959:  This box of “10 CARTRIDGES SPOTTER TRACER CALIBER .50 M-48A1” has a full, clean, legible label indicating this box was produced at the Frankford Arsenal.

The box is a two piece top and bottom which did not require, and never was, sealed.  The label, printed on the box body, is still fully intact, and you can slide the two sections apart to see all 10 of the original cartridges present in the box.  The ten matching cartridges are headstamped "FA" indicating the Frankford Arsenal, and “59”, indicating this lot was produced in 1959

Overall this box is very clean and in excellent condition with all of the other seams intact, the label complete and fully legible, and the pointed bullets have not pierced the bottom of the carton as is so often seen on these paperboard boxes.

This is a scarce packet, seldom encountered, and it will make a nice addition to display with any U.S. military.  (0715) $150

FRANKFORD ARSENAL .50 CALIBER BROWNING MACHINE GUN SINGLE CARTRIDGES:  These are very nice individual examples of the famous .50 Browning Machine Gun cartridges, produced shortly before, and after World War Two.  These hefty cartridges with very collectible early dates would be an interesting addition to your collection.

NO. 1  FRANKFORD ARSENAL .50 CALIBER BROWNING MACHINE GUN CARTRIDGE:  Produced at Frankford Arsenal in 1937, this standard ball cartridge is in excellent condition.  A scarce survivor from the pre-World War Two years.  $65

NO. 2  REMINGTON ARMS .50 CALIBER BROWNING MACHINE GUN CARTRIDGE:  In excellent condition, this standard ball cartridge was produced under contract with the federal government, by the Remington Arms Company in 1952.  $55
