GARDINER .243 CALIBER VARMINTER BULLETS - 1940’s
BOX IN VERY GOOD CONDITION: Produced by Ernest
Gardiner of Rockford, Illinois, this box of .243 Caliber
Varminter “Open Point” Bullets has survived in very good
condition.
This is an interesting relic from the golden era of
cartridge handloading which emerged in the years
following World War II. During the late 1940’s and
early 1950’s there were significant advancements in
bullets and loading equipment, and as the war time
shortages of materials eased, these specialized
components became more available to handloaders.
This packet was offered under the labeling “Gardiner
Precision Bullets”, and from the style and professional
presentation of the label, and the style of the two
piece box, Gardiner must have had quite a following.
The box lid and body are both full form with no weak
edges or misshaping. The box contains 91 of the 100
bullets, all match and all appear to be original to this
packet. The label is full form with only very minor
edge wear, and one end has the remnants of a piece of
scotch tape applied at some point in the past.
This is an interesting survivor from a bygone era of
reloading, and would display well with antique loading
tools. (0739) $75
