CIVIL WAR PAPER PACKET OF PERCUSSION CAPS – SCARCE
CIVIL WAR AMMUNITION ITEM: An original Civil
War issue paper wrap packet of 12 percussion caps as
provided to the soldiers with each packet of paper
cartridges for the muskets, carbines and pistols. These
packets are full form, with all twelve caps and are
secured with a twist at one end and at folded tail at
the other in the same form as the paper cartridges.
Most of these show some sign of scuffing where the rim
of the “top hap” pattern caps wore against the paper
wrapper when included in the packets of cartridges, but
all are amazingly intact in spite of their fragile
nature and the passage of time.
I was fortunate to find
a few of these packets and all are in the condition of
the one pictured below. This is a nice complete example
of a fragile and relatively scarce ammunition
collectable that is often missing from Civil War
collections and will display nicely with your cartridges
and firearms. (0326) $75 |
