WORLD WAR ONE BRITISH MARK I “BRODIE” HELMET –
NICE EXAMPLE WITH A FULLY LEGIBLE INSPECTION STAMP:
This British Army Mark I
“Brodie” Helmet was not only issued to soldiers in the
British Army during World War One, but was also issued
to US troops as they arrived in Europe in 1917 before
the US Army Model 1917 Helmets were produced in
sufficient quantities to supply to our troops.
This helmet is in full form with no dents or other
misshaping. The exterior of the helmet has the correct
sawdust textured finish which was applied to reduce the
reflection of light from the helmet. The original OD
green paint is fully intact with no corrosion or
abrasion damaging the finish.
The black oilcloth sweat band is fully intact and
undamaged. On the inside of the oilcloth sweat band is
stamped with the British Army’s stamp including
“BRODIE’S STEEL HELMET”; “WAR OFFICE PATTERN” and the
patent information. The wool felt cover over the crown
pad has deteriorated as so many of them have over the
years, however the leather suspension strap across the
crown is still present and intact, retaining the rubber
“doughnut” in place. The corded netting suspension cap
is still present and in full form. Both chinstrap bales
are still present and fully functional.
Fresh from a very old collection, this World War One
British Army Mark I Helmet would be a very nice addition
to your World War One collection, and would display
correctly with US Army uniforms and equipment of the
period. (0312) $175
