EARLY 20TH CENTURY US ARMY UNIFORM
THREAD SPOOLS – “LIKE NEW” OLD STOCK – MARKED “PROPERTY
OF THE U.S.”: I just discovered a small
quantity of these early 20TH Century US Army
Thread Spools of OD Green Thread, likely issued to the
soldiers for repairing their uniforms.
The embossed stamping on the end of the spool, “PROPERTY
OF THE U.S.”, is something that would have to have been
done before the onset of World War One, as the rapid
growth of the army during mobilization required a
simplification of stamps, markings and special orders
such as is represented by this stamping. During and
after World War One and on into the World War Two years,
suppliers delivered directly off the assembly lines with
such property marks being deleted from expendable
items.
These spools are not commonly found and I have only a
very limited number to add to your pre-WWI uniform
grouping. (0908) $10
