ORIGINAL MODEL 1872 US ARMY FORAGE CAP OR KEPI
INSIGNIA – REGIMENTAL NUMBERS AND COMPANY LETTERS:
As used to designate the soldier’s regiment and company,
these are the original Model 1872 Kepi or Forage Cap
Letters and Numerals Insignia. Affixed to the crown of
the soldier’s hat, the numbers were attached above the
intersection of the crossed sabres, rifles or cannons
and the letter was attached below the intersection.
These numerals were also used with the 1872 and 1881
Dress Helmets, fastened to the center of Eagle
Plate to designate the soldier's regiment. The
numerals are German silver, the letters are brass and
all are ˝” high. These are unissued old, original
stock, in excellent condition and the have the attaching
wires present on the reverse. These insignia will be
nice additions to your Indian War uniform and
equipment collection.
