ORIGINAL INDIAN SCOUT CAMPAIGN INSIGNIA – RARE
SPECIMEN IN EXCELLENT CONDITION: This is a very
rare offering from an old collection where such
treasures are occasionally to be found. This original
German Silver Indian Scout Campaign Insignia was
introduced with the unique Pattern 1890 Indian Scout
Campaign Hat. One of the rarest of the Indian War Era
insignias, seldom does an original specimen surface, and
this piece is in notably excellent condition. Due to
the small numbers of Indian Scouts in service during
that era, relatively few of these insignias were
manufactured or issued, resulting in a low survival rate
today.
The role of the Indian Scouts has captured the interest
and imagination of students of the Indian Wars, and
their distinctive uniforms and insignia always have been
actively sought by collectors. This Indian Scout
Campaign presents in excellent condition, showing no
signs of wear or abuse, and the distinctive brass
attaching pin is intact and fully attached on the
reverse.
I
purchased this piece from an elderly collector who
assembled the bulk of his collection prior to the 1960’s
and I have no doubt as to its originality. This is a
rare Indian Scout insignia to find on the loose.
