MODEL 1858 CIVIL WAR CANTEEN: This standard
Civil War issue Model 1858 Canteen retains the brown wool
cover over the smooth sided, full form body, all three
sling keepers are intact and the stopper is present and
complete. The cover shows use and wear, with a wear
through spot approximately 1” square on one side and a
larger area on the opposite side on the lower left arc
of the canteen. Otherwise the cover is complete and
fairly clean with the herringbone pattern of the
material plainly visible. The unmarked neck of spout is
off set and this appears to have been done intentionally
by the soldier to move the spout away from his body.
The spout is still intact where it is mounted on the
body and is not at all loose. The canteen body is solid
with no open seams or weak points due to rust. Overall
while this Civil War Canteen has seen use in the hands
of a soldier, it remains a respectable complete specimen
with a decent cover. (0110) $250
