FRONT SIGHT HOODS: Original Model 1884
Springfield Trapdoor Carbine and Rifle Front Sight
Hoods, as were provided to the troops on a special
request basis from their officers. This appendage was
designed to slide over the muzzle of the rifle and mount
over the front sight blade and base to protect the front
sight from damage or misalignment. The description for
each pattern of sight hood follows, and corresponds to
the letter designations next to the hoods in the
photographs below.

Carbine Sight Hood with the scarce “C” stamping on the
front face of the hood. Very seldom found. In
excellent condition, with the blued finish still
bright.

C: MODEL 1886 EXPERIMENTAL CARBINE
FRONT SIGHT HOOD: Produced for the 24”
Experimental Carbine, this sight hood was sized to
accommodate the larger diameter of the cut down rifle
barrels utilized in these carbines. This scarce hood is
complete with the attaching screw, this hood is in
excellent condition, with the blued finish still
bright. Have only one.
