ORIGINAL .58 CALIBER TOMPION   RARE SHORT PATTERN FOR THE MODEL 1855 CARBINES AND PISTOL CARBINES:  This is a scarce,  shorter variation on the standard .58 caliber Tompion issued beginning with the adoption of the Model 1855 longarms, through the Civil War and early Indian War years.

Measuring only 2 1/16 long, this may have been intended for issue with the .58 caliber pistol-carbines and standard carbines of the era.  Cut with the two cruciform slots, this tompion is in excellent condition and shows no sign of wear or use.

Each soldier was issued one of these to prevent debris and moisture from getting into the barrel of his firearm.  SOLD
