ORIGINAL MODEL 1873 COLT SINGLE ACTION PISTOL 1ST
GENERATION HARD RUBBER GRIP PANELS – A MATCHED
PAIR: This is a matched pair of original 1ST
Generation Colt Single Action hard rubber grip panels.
Of special note, is that inside the left grip panel is
hand engraved the date “JAN. 11. 1901”, which was
apparently a date of some significance to the revolver’s
owner.
As can be seen in the photographs below, the grips are
well worn with very little of the checkering remaining
and the high points of the two Rampant Colts in the
ovals showing wear as well. The some of the checking
still survives in the protected areas around the ovals
and the grip screw shoulders. The left grip has a crack
running across the grip in line with the screw hole,
caused by the grip screw being over tightened. The
crack is more apparent in the photograph than it is in
person, and the panel does not appear to be weak or
ready to break as long as some common sense care is
employed when mounting these grips on a pistol. The
panels are otherwise in good condition with no damage to
the edges or the butts.
Admittedly, this set shows constant use and holster
wear, but finding a matched set of grips is becoming
increasingly difficult and these grip panels would be
perfect for a Colt showing commensurate wear and age.
