“US” MARKED MODEL 1855 TUMBLER AND WIRE PUNCH:
Adopted with the newly introduced .58 caliber longarms,
this punch proved to be one of longest lived tools in
the US Army’s inventory. A standard tool, however this
punch set is one of the scarce specimens that is marked
“US”. Originally designed so that the smaller of the
two pins was used to push out the band springs on the
stock, and the larger pin was to be inserted in the hole
left in the lock tumbler when the tumbler screw was
removed. This tool remained in service through the
service life of the M1873-1888 Trapdoor Rifles and
Carbines. In excellent condition with the arsenal
finish intact. (C50) $75
