MODEL 1903 AND MODEL 1917 RIFLE CLEANING PATCH
HOLDER AND THONG SETS: These “pull through”
cleaning patch holders attached to a twisted hemp thong
were part of the Oil and Thong Kits issued with the
Models 1903 and 1917 Rifles.
I have the variations described below.

First Type:
Measuring 2 ¾” long, this cleaning patch holder is made
of brass with a russet colored cord. $15

Second type
- Steel Weight:
Measuring 3 5/16” long, this cleaning patch holder is
made of steel with a russet colored cord.

U.S. SPRINGFIELD RIFLE CLEANING THONG AND WEIGHT:
The exact set shown on page 201 of Gun Tools, Volume 2
by Dorsey and Shaffer and out of the author's research
collection. A two piece brass weight which
unscrews to accept a small bristle bore brush. The
full length cord is a shiny dark twine. (0406)
