MARBLE’S SECTIONED RIFLE CLEANING ROD IN THE
ORIGINAL POUCH – COMPLETE SET: This sectioned
Marble’s Rifle Cleaning Rod appears to be complete with
all the sections and the smaller jag and extension
pieces present, and has survived with the original cloth
pouch.
The sections are all full length, and all the threaded
male and female joints are intact with clear threads.
The wooden handle is full form with no cracks or other
damage and the original varnish is present. The brass
ferrule below the handle is stamped “MARBLE’S/GLADSTONE/MICH
U.S.A./PATENTED”.
The cloth pouch is full form, however it has suffered
some wear at the bottom end where the rod ends have
poked through the cloth and there is a small tear
approximately ˝” long on the reverse side of the pouch.
The pouch flap is still present as is the original
closure button. This buttoned bag appears to be the
earlier version as the later bags had a drawstring tie
at the top rather than the flap and button closure.
The Marble Firearms Company of Gladstone, Michigan was
founded in 1892 and it appears that the company was
issued U.S. Patent 799,176, Cleaning Rod for Firearms,
in 1905. Based on the drawing submitted with the patent
application and that Marble’s was not issued any other
patent for a cleaning rod, this must have been the
patent for this particular cleaning rod design.
Used, but complete, this set would display well with an
early 20TH Century rifle. (0233) $35
