ORDNANCE DEPARTMENT RUBBER PROOF STAMP – LIKE NEW:
A unique piece of Ordnance Department memorabilia, a
small quantity of these “flaming bomb” Ordnance
Department proof or acceptance stamps were found in the
original box printed with the government inventory
information. I have seen these stamps applied to boxes
of Ordnance related parts as early as World War Two
vintage, and some that I suspected were from the
inter-war years, or perhaps as early as World War One.
The face of the stamp measures 1 ¼” by ¾” and stands 2”
tall. The red rubber stamp face that bears the flaming
bomb is mounted on a nicely finished oak wood block that
is itself stamped “ORD” on the top face. These are in
like new, unused condition, fresh out of the box and
would be an interesting addition to any collection of
Ordnance or arsenal related material, or to have on your
desk for use in correspondence. As noted above, a very
small quantity of these was found together and when
these are sold, it is not likely you’ll find them
again. $45
NOTE: The box shown below in the photographs is not
available for purchase.
