.52-58 CALIBER MUSKET WIPER – WILL THREAD ONTO A
HALL RIFLE & CARBINE ROD AND THE ENFIELD RIFLE RAMROD:
As described on pages 113-114 of Gun Tools, Their
History and Identification, Vol. I, Shaffer,
Rutledge, and Dorsey, this wiper is believed to have
been produced and issued during the Civil War, but it is
not known for which rifle or musket. Through a process
of trying on a number of different ramrods, I have found
that this wiper will fit both the Enfield Rifle rod and
the Hall rifle and carbine rods. As these arms were
used to one degree or another by both sides during the
war, it is possible this wiper was adapted to them at
some point during the war. In the absence of one of the
scarcer wipers for the above named rifles and carbines,
this wiper would be a nice addition to your collection.
