AUSTRIAN KRIEGS MARINE COLT MODEL 1851 NAVY PISTOL
CAPPER – VERY NICE SPECIMEN OF A FAIRLY SCARCE COLT
APPENDAGE: As provided by the Colt Firearms
Company to the Austrian “Kriegs Marine” or Royal Navy,
this Colt Capper was one of the appendages included in
the order of 1000 Colt Model 1851 Navy Pistols purchased
by the Austrian government in 1859.
Complete and fully functional, this brass capper is
fully intact with the retention knob and original
twisted cord lanyard. The brass has a nice even patina
and the steel knob and spring jaws are full form with no
pitting. The lanyard is full length with the back
spliced loop still intact on the capper’s ring. The
upper loop of the lanyard is separated at the point
where it is back spliced. This separation could be
easily restored with a few minutes spent studying a
sailor’s knot guide or a Boy Scout handbook – a decision
and task I’ll leave to the next owner. The back flat of
the capper is legibly stamped “KM”, the known Kriegs
Marine property stamp.
This is a fairly scarce appendage for any Colt Model
1851 Navy Pistol with the added value of having the
Austrian Kriegs Marine property stamp.
