COLT .36 NAVY PERCUSSION REVOLVER COMBINATION TOOL
- EARLY PATTERN IN EXCELLENT CONDITION: As
described on page 204, Gun Tools, Their History and
Identification, by Shaffer, Rutledge, and Dorsey,
this is the Early Pattern Combination Tool which was
provided with the Colt Model 1851 Navy .36 Caliber
Revolvers. Featuring a cone wrench on one end and a
screwdriver blade on the other, this “L” shaped tool
provided the necessary tools to dismount and clean the
revolver.
In excellent condition, this tool shows no evidence of
wear and still retains a bright steel finish –
apparently the manner in which these early pattern tools
were finished rather than the later blued finish. This
is a relatively scarce tool with an apparently low
survival rate, and one that would display nicely with an
early Colt Navy revolver.
