1944 DATED WORLD WAR TWO US MILITARY
RED CROSS
PLAYING CARDS:
These decks of standard playing cards were given to the
soldiers in the forward areas, hospitals, and rest
centers as a form of recreation, and provided in at
least two formats: this regular 52 card deck and the
special pinochle 48 card decks as well – a popular card
game in the first half of the 20th Century.
This packet
of regular
playing cards is dated Feb. 4, 1944, well before the
Normandy invasion. The packet is complete with the correct cards and
suits with all 52 cards present plus the Joker cards,
and in fact, the deck of cards is still sealed in the
original cellophane wrapper. As with most of the
decks of these cards, the outer box shows
some shelf or box wear, however
the deck of cards is in literally "like new" condition and
was never unwrapped.
Not commonly found, this is an unusual piece to
add to your WWII GI display or a WWII Medical Corps
display.
