US ARMY CHIEF OF ORDNANCE REPORT 1881:  An original printing of The Report of the Chief of Ordnance to the Secretary of War for the year 1881, printed at the Government Printing Office, Washington, consisting of 560 pages and numerous tables, illustrations and plates.  An Ex liberis edition from the Carnegie Free Library in Allegheny, Pennsylvania, this is one of the editions that has the Ordnance Department Insignia - the flaming bomb and crossed cannons surrounded by the leather belt – embossed on the front cover.  The spine on this volume was deteriorated when I obtained it and in order to conserve the integrity of the pages, it has been restored by a professional book binder who specializes in antique books.  The only portion replaced was the exterior binding over the spine and the binder replicated the gold foil title information on the spine.  An excellent restoration has resulted in a tight binding and all the pages and tables present and attached, and only very minor wear to the original cover boards’ edges and corners.
