INDIAN WARS ERA CABINET CARD OF A CAVALRY MAN
ARMED WITH A TRAPDOOR CARBINE – PARTICULARLY NICE AND
UNUSUAL OUTDOOR IMAGE:
This is a particularly
nice cabinet card image of a late Indian Wars cavalry
man, striking quite a pose as he stands on a rise above
a tent encampment. He has his trapdoor carbine
over his shoulder and is dressed in the dark blue wool
shirt, tan campaign hat, and high boots of the period.
His holster and dark blue Mills woven cartridge belt are
also visible. This desirable outdoor view of a
single solider showing this amount of detail is
considerably more unusual than the standard in-house
studio photographs of the period. The image itself
measures 3" high and 2.25" wide, with the mounting card
adding an inch to all sides. The condition is
quite good with no damage or scuffing to the image
surface. SOLD
