SPRINGFIELD RESEARCH SERVICE SERIAL NUMBERS OF
U.S. MARTIAL ARMS - COMPLETE 4 VOLUME SET: An excellent
addition to the library of any collector of U.S. martial
firearms, the volumes of the Springfield Research
Service’s Serial Numbers of U.S. Martial Arms
series provide an interesting reference source.
Gleaned from the records available at the National
Archives, Frank Mallory assembled data regarding
firearms he found in unit records which he published
over time in a four volume series. As the information he discovered was
published in each succeeding volume, no one single volume is
comprehensive. The sets of four volumes are long out of
print and are now only available in the secondary
market, and these volumes – singly or in sets -
are fairly scarce.
This four volume set is fresh out of an old collection,
and it is the first set that I have had in several
years. All four books show some handling - Volumes
I & II more than Volumes III & IV - however all four are
complete with both covers in presentable condition, not
missing any pages, and the bindings are still strong and
intact.
This scarce offering will be an excellent addition to
your collection library, and in addition to researching
the serial number of your firearm to see if it is one of
those listed, the entries also provide information as to
which arms were issued to which units, at what period of
history.
