US SPRINGFIELD RIFLE AND RIFLE MUSKET WIPERS AND
BALL SCREWS:
Every soldier carried a wiper (worm) and a ball screw in his cartridge box
for maintaining his firearm, and these are nice examples to complete your musket display.
Each is described below with accompanying photographs.

MODEL 1855 .58 CALIBER U.S. RIFLE AND RIFLE MUSKET
WIPER —EARLY VERSION ca. 1855:
This is the early version, ca. 1855, of the .58 caliber
U.S. Rifle and Rifle Musket Wiper. In excellent
condition with full length prongs and the arsenal finish
intact,
this is a very nice specimen of a scarce tool.

MODEL 1855 .58 CALIBER RIFLE AND RIFLE MUSKET BALL
SCREW—EARLY VERSION: Early 1855 version with
the rounded shoulders, used to extract the ball from the
loaded rifle without firing the weapon. In very
good condition, however through use the tip of the screw
has been broken. In spite of the evidence of use,
this is still a very respectable specimen. (0405)

MODEL 1861 .58 CALIBER RIFLE MUSKET WIPER –
LONG BASE: Long base wiper as was issued
with the early Civil War Model 1861 Rifle Muskets.
In excellent condition with full length prongs and the
arsenal finish intact, this is a nice piece to complete
your musket display. As this long base pattern was
replaced by the short base pattern mid way through the
war, these long base versions are considerably harder to
find and proportionately more desirable.

MODEL 1863 .58 CALIBER RIFLE MUSKET WIPER – SHORT BASE:
The mid-Civil War modification which was first published
in the 1863 Ordnance Manual. In excellent
condition with full length prongs and the arsenal finish
intact, this is a nice piece to complete your musket
display.

MODEL 1862 .58 CALIBER RIFLE MUSKET BALL
SCREW—MID-WAR VERSION: Model 1862 version with
the square shoulders, used to extract the ball from the
loaded rifle without firing the weapon. In
excellent condition, with the full threaded screw
