SHORT LAND
NEW PATTERN
MUSKET LOCK - AKA "BROWN BESS" - TOWER MARKED:
I acquired this lock plate from a man who did
considerable collecting in the United Kingdom, some
50-60 years ago. It is entirely possible, maybe
even likely that he picked up this plate during one of
those forays. This lock was never mounted on a
musket as the front lock plate screw hole is not
threaded, and the upper lock plate screw hole and the
frizzen screw holes were never drilled. This plate may
have been left over when the British Army moved onto the
next generation of shoulder arms. (0766)
