ORIGINAL MODEL 1916 FIELD SERVICE RIFLE CLEANING
ROD COMPLETE WITH CARRYING POUCH:
As discussed on pages
292-296 in Gun Tools Volume I, this four piece
Model 1916 Field Service Rifle Cleaning Rod was issued
with the Model 1903 Springfield and Model 1917
Rifles. Issued, as titled, for use in the field only,
this rod was issued in addition to the one piece
Barracks Cleaning Rod which was stored in the barracks
room arms rack.
With all four rod sections intact, and complete with the
khaki canvas carrying case, this set presents in like
new condition with no signs of wear and only some very
minor soiling to the case. The case is ink stamped with
the maker’s name, R.H. Long, dated 7-18 for July, 1918,
and with some additional stampings that may be unit
applied inventory marks.
This rod set is in excellent condition and is a very
nice example of to display with your Springfield
