BELGIAN-FRENCH COMBINATION SCREWDRIVER – AMERICAN
CIVIL WAR IMPORT MUSKETS: A long serving tool
which was issued with several Belgian weapons such as
the Model 1816/22 Cavalry Pistol and its percussion
conversions; the Model 1841 Rifle; and the Model 1848
Thouvenin Carbine.
Designed to be used as an insert blade with a wooden
handle, very few of these survived with the handle
intact. It is believed in some circles that France and
other European countries copied this design. These
screwdrivers would have been included with the Belgian
muskets imported during the American Civil War.
Measuring 2 ¼” long, this screwdriver is in
very nice condition, shows no signs of having been
issued or used, with both screwdriver blades in full
form, and the body bearing a maker’s stamp.
